Job description

Seeking a highly qualified freelance LSA Engineer with extensive experience in complex maritime defense projects for the German Navy. The role involves direct involvement in major naval projects and ensuring system availability and lifecycle cost optimization.

Project overview

Are you an experienced logistics and LSA expert looking for a new challenge in maritime defense technology?

For a portfolio consisting exclusively of highly complex naval defense projects, we are looking for a highly qualified LSA Engineer (m/f/d) on a freelance basis (approx. 36 months) starting immediately.

In this role, you will work in the direct environment of the most important major naval projects of the German Navy (such as the shipbuilding projects F127, MBV707, and FD-Boot). If you want to contribute your in-depth expertise to ensuring the operational readiness of state-of-the-art sea-based defense systems, we look forward to receiving your application!

Skills

What we offer

Where candidates can be found: The Bundeswehr frigate project is currently affected by severe setbacks and cost problems in two respects: Frigate F126 (stopped): Defense Minister Boris Pistorius officially terminated the project to build six F126-type frigates in June 2026 due to massive delays, cost increases (to almost 18–18.8 billion euros), and risks. The Dutch shipyard Damen has since been demanding around 4.7 billion euros in damages or for breach of contract. The procurement of up to eight MEKO A-200 type frigates from TKMS is planned as a replacement.

Frigate F127 (on the brink / cost explosion): The new prestige project F127 is also massively on the brink in November 2026. According to internal documents reported by Stern magazine, the total costs for the eight planned air defense frigates could rise from an official 30 billion to up to 45 billion euros (due, among other things, to expensive US Aegis combat systems and missiles). The budget committee is now examining alternatives or a reduction in the size of the ships; the project is on hold for the time being.

  • Execution and control of Logistic Support Analysis (LSA) for purely maritime systems and sea-based defense projects.
  • Logistic support and LSA consulting within the scope of major naval projects for the fleet (e.g., frigates, supply ships, reconnaissance boats like F127, MBV707, FD-Boot).
  • Ensuring system availability and optimizing lifecycle costs for sea-based naval systems.
  • You have a technical degree as Dipl.-Ing (FH) or an equivalent qualification.
  • You have logistics experience with complex systems (demonstrable by at least 2 references for major projects / complex projects within the last 10 years).
  • You possess at least 15 years of proven industry experience in the field of LSA.
  • You can demonstrate at least 10 years of LSA experience in the direct environment of Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces) projects.
  • You have sound experience with naval projects (demonstrable by at least one reference project completed within the last 5 years).
  • All employees on this project must have fluent English skills (especially technical English) in speaking and writing.
  • High willingness to travel for occasional assignments at the Lahnstein, Koblenz, Bremen, Hamburg, and Rostock locations.
