Project overview

For a project in the retail sector, I am looking for an experienced freelance Product Owner (m/f/d) on short notice, who will take over the operational end-to-end management of an existing development project.

The focus is on structuring and optimizing existing processes, close collaboration with the development team, and building transparency towards management. We are looking for a pragmatic, communicative personality who can quickly familiarize themselves with complex topics and solve challenges independently.

Responsibilities

• End-to-end management of an existing product development project
• Operational management and close daily collaboration with the development team
• Application and further development of agile methods and processes
• Identification and removal of obstacles within the development process
• Obtaining, evaluating, and using effort estimates from the development team for realistic planning
• Structuring and prioritizing requirements and product backlogs
• Building relevant KPIs to measure development progress and team performance
• Creating transparency regarding progress, risks, and dependencies towards the leadership team
• Coordination and communication with various stakeholders
• Continuous identification of potential improvements within the team and existing processes

Requirements

• At least 3 years of professional experience as a Product Owner
• Very good knowledge of agile methods, especially Scrum and/or Kanban
• Demonstrable experience in the operational management of software development teams
• Good technical understanding of development processes, dependencies, and potential blockers
• Experience with effort estimation, sprint planning, backlog management, and prioritization
• Experience in building KPIs, reporting structures, and management transparency
• Strong communication skills, assertiveness, and confident handling of various stakeholders
• Structured, independent, and solution-oriented way of working
• Experience in the retail sector, especially with large retail companies
• Knowledge of merchandise management systems and retail-related business processes
